As most populations grow in age, so do they in size. Traditional stretchers and litters are become less able to carry patients safely and efficiently. As providers we need to be prepared to have secondary means or ideas on how to move a patient who is considered of bariatric patient safely. This is an article with links to a mega mover, there are several on the market but a good pre-planning with your agency can come if ideas before your meet your first bariatric patient. What is your plan to move a large patient , what is your plan to call for assistance if needed, do we ask family to assist? Pre-planning is key to any successful outcome. Be safe and be prepared.
